Growing in Faith

The spiritual life of our students is a priority here at SouthLake Christian. Through daily prayer, Bible study, weekly chapel worship services, small group discussions, yearly retreats and numerous other impromptu spiritual interactions, we are intentional in the development of our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our lower school students benefit from the Deep Roots curriculum, complementing our weekly chapel services. This program enhances their understanding of spiritual lessons, laying a strong foundation in Biblical knowledge and Christian character for a lifetime of faith and service. In addition to Deep Roots, we also use The Gospel Project chapel curriculum, further enriching their spiritual education and fostering a deeper connection with Biblical teachings.

Our middle school students utilize the Deep Roots curriculum in Bible classes, designed to instill a solid understanding of biblical teachings and principles. Students explore the Old and New Testaments, learning about the historical context, key figures, and moral lessons. Through discussions, projects, and memorization of verses, students develop a strong spiritual foundation and a personal connection to their faith. Additionally, 7th & 8th grade students engage with custom-designed curriculum crafted by the lead Bible educator.

At SouthLake Christian, faith is the cornerstone of our educational philosophy. Biblical principles are integrated into every aspect of our curriculum, ensuring that students not only gain knowledge but also wisdom rooted in Christian values. Daily Bible classes, weekly chapel services, and various opportunities for spiritual development are all integral parts of our school life. We also hold weekly Advisory sessions where each high school teacher mentors a small group of students, fostering deep relationships and encouraging spiritual growth. Our aim is to nurture a strong, personal faith in each student, equipping them to navigate life with integrity, compassion, and purpose.

Our weekly Upper School chapel service is the community highlight of our week. Whether from the variety of chapel speakers who have integrated their walk with Christ into every aspect of their lives, the student worship band or the corporate time of prayer and song, chapel is the weekly reminder of the reason and source of our strength in order to be effective salt and light in a needy world.

In Lower School chapels are held weekly on Wednesday mornings. All JK-12th grade classes attend chapel and take turns leading in pledges, prayer, and worship. Each week different speakers present a short message on the year’s theme. Speakers include faculty, administration, pastors, community leaders and missionaries. Parents are invited to attend and it is a favorite time of the week for students and teachers.

Retreats and special spiritual emphasis days are planned each year for lower, middle, and upper school students as a time for spiritual renewal and relationship building.

Lower school students in grades JK-6 embark on a number of day trips from the Billy Graham Library to the Duke Energy Exploratorium to the Annual Rural Hill Amazing ‘Maize' Maze.

Middle and upper school students attend Windy Gap each fall, a Young Life-owned retreat center in the North Carolina mountains, where they spend two days and nights bonding with their classmates and growing in their relationships with Christ. Time at Windy Gap consists of chapel in the morning and evening, friendly class competitions, and free time in the afternoon. This annual event is a much-anticipated highlight of every school year.

Each year, SouthLake Christian participates in Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan’s Purse, partners with Caterpillar Ministries, sends seniors on a trip to Puerto Rico to engage with locals, and supports the Love Brave House and its mission. Mission Week is a highlight of the year, as our school community gathers each spring for chapel services focused on global mission work, inspiring students to pray, give, and go. During this time, students learn about impactful service projects completed by previous classes and hear firsthand stories from those who have served on past mission trips.

A cornerstone of our educational philosophy is the highly anticipated Learn and Serve Week, a unique initiative that epitomizes our commitment to hands-on learning and community involvement. During this week, students step out of the conventional classroom setting to engage directly with community projects. These projects are carefully selected to address real-world issues and provide meaningful contributions to local organizations and communities. This immersive experience not only enriches students' understanding of societal needs but also instills a strong sense of civic duty and empathy.
