Extracurricular Opportunities

Math Olympics is an annual event for students in Grades 4-8. The objectives of Math Olympics are to stimulate an interest in mathematics, recognize the achievements of students in mathematics, and provide opportunity to meet and fellowship with other mathematically oriented students. SLCA sends three students in each grade level for the Computation competition and three students at each grade level for the Reasoning competition.

The Fine Arts Festival, held each Spring, is an annual opportunity for SLCA Middle School students to shine. Our choir and symphonic bands compete against other schools in our region. In addition, visual arts students may submit their artwork in various mediums.

This is an annual event for students in Grades 4-8. The Spelling Bee is held under the regulations of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The winner of the annual SouthLake Spelling Bee, held in January, continues on to the Regional Independent School Spelling Bee. The winners have the chance to continue on and compete in the National Spelling Bee.

Chapel band is open to qualified students who combine their musical gifts with a love for the Lord to lead students in praise and worship music during chapel.

At the beginning of each school year middle school students retreat together for either a day trip (5th/6th grade) or an overnight adventure (7th/8th grade) for the sole purpose of fellowship and spiritual enrichment. This time includes outdoor activities, special speakers and worship.

Additionally, each school year concludes with 8th Grade Commencement and an off-campus celebration. Later that same evening 7th and 8th grade students return for our annual Social, a themed dance planned by our Parent Social Committee.

We have weekly age-appropriate chapel services for our students highlighted by intriguing biblical themes and meaningful worship music. Students follow up in small advisory groups to discuss their chapel notes and to build relationships with one another and their advisory leader.
