SouthLake Christian's Middle School is divided into two distinct groups - the Intermediate School (Grades 5 and 6) and the Junior High (Grades 7 and 8). At each grade level, the schedule, class structure, and curriculum are thoughtfully and intentionally designed to help students effectively transition from the self-contained classrooms of Lower School to the independent learning style required of a successful Upper School student. Students in the lower grades of middle school have fewer classes and several structured breaks throughout their day including a 30-minute lunch and 30-minute recess. Once promoted into Junior High, the day includes more classes, more teachers, and more rigor while still allowing students the room to grow and mature into the learner God has uniquely designed them to be.
The Middle School curriculum at SouthLake Christian is selected for appropriate rigor and content specific to each subject area. As students mature intellectually, instruction becomes more specialized in each subject area(s) to ensure that the depth and breadth of content matures comparably. All subjects are presented from a Christian worldview as teachers utilize texts and resources that represent the highest quality content. Technology is used regularly in each classroom to augment learning and labs. Projects and other hands-on methods of content assessment are woven together to create a well-rounded student experience for all types of learners.
We want our students to feel known and loved at SouthLake Christian. We desire for them to learn in an environment that is welcoming, safe, encouraging and inspired. We strive to provide opportunities inside and outside the classroom that challenge our students to achieve to their God given ability, using their personal gifts for the Kingdom and building community on our campus.
