College & Career Counseling

Welcome to the College and Career Counseling Office (CCCO)! SouthLake Christian Academy's College and Career Counseling program prioritizes personalized guidance, which helps students discover who they are and explore post graduation opportunities that complement their gifts and goals.

College and career counseling at SouthLake Christian begins in the latter half of 8th grade and continues beyond graduation. The CCCO guides students through multiple future pathways, including education, employment, and enlistment.

Education

The CCCO assists students matriculating to two-or-four year colleges with:

Discerning best fit through assessment and reflection
Selecting high school courses to best align with post graduation plans
Research schools and cultivating balanced college lists
Making the most of campus visits
Understanding standardized testing
Crafting personal statements
Preparing and completing applications through CommonApp and individual schools
Understanding supplemental documents
Requesting letters of recommendation
Developing resumes
Practicing for interviews
Understanding and applying for financial aid and scholarships
Advising student-athletes for NCAA/NAIA eligibility
Outlining audition and portfolio reviews for student-artists
Meeting supplemental requirements for application to service academies (NOTE: Students considering application to a service academy should alert the CCCO no later than beginning of their junior year)

Employment

The CCCO assists students entering the workforce with:

Exploring career paths and discerning best fit through assessment and reflection
Selecting high school courses to emphasize skills such as communication, collaboration, financial literacy, and elements of digital presence
Understanding certification requirements and standardized testing
Evaluating apprenticeships and shadowing opportunities
Developing resumes
Conducting job searches
Preparing and completing applications
Cultivating interview skills

Enlistment

The CCCO assists students wishing to serve their country through military service with:

Researching the branches of service and the specific opportunities within each to discern best fit
Selecting high school courses to best align with post graduation plans
Liaising with recruiters
Understanding standardized testing, particularly the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB, required of all recruits)
Understanding the required physical assessment
Applying to service academies (NOTE: Students considering application to a service academy should alert the CCCO no later than the beginning of their junior year)
