Discover the History at SouthLake Christian

SouthLake Christian Academy was founded in 1994 as a ministry of SouthLake Presbyterian (PCA) Church. The school started with just 23 students in grades K-3, and now enrolls 650+ students in JK through 12th grade.

School History

SouthLake Christian has a rich history of providing quality education to students. Established in 1994, our institution has been committed to nurturing young minds and preparing them for a successful future. Over the years, we have evolved into a leading educational institution known for our academic excellence and holistic approach to education.

The founders of the school were members of SouthLake Presbyterian Church who intended for SouthLake to prepare students for college and to proclaim Christ while welcoming students of all faiths. With rented facilities from Huntersville First Baptist Church, the school opened in the fall of 1994 with 23 students, three teachers in combined classes that included kindergarten through fourth grade and a voluntary principal, Debbie Hix. SouthLake stands as a tribute to those people who understood and obeyed God’s calling for a Christian school in the. Lake Norman area. Based on enrollment increases, God has been pleased with the outcome.

Today, the Academy enrolls more than 650 students in JK through 12th grade and its commitment to rigorous college preparation in a Christ-centered environment is stronger than ever. As SouthLake Christian approaches its third decade of service to the community, we know that our board members, administrators, teachers, coaches, parents, and community partners each have a vested interest in a strong future for the school and represents our best efforts to capture both God’s direction and the collective wisdom of our community.

“Picking a school is such an individual choice, and there are so many choices these days for parents. For us, we just knew SouthLake was a really strong fit for our daughter. She’s benefitted from the individualized support in and out of the classroom. The staff has comforted her in her times of need and celebrated her success along the way. We are thrilled to be a part of SouthLake.”
