Each classroom
has a computer, containing the Reading Eagles program, for reading
comprehension-testing purposes. Students choose a book from the
Reading Eagles site within their reading level range, read the book,
and then take the computerized comprehension test. Reading Eagles
books in the SouthLake library are marked with “AC”
on the spine. A link to a web-based search engine can be found on
EdLine.
Prizes are awarded monthly
as students reach various point levels. The point levels are used
to challenge and motivate students to read. Awards are posted on
EdLine monthly.
Reading Eagles books
should only be read during the term of the Reading Eagles Program.
Students should wait until the start date of the program to begin
reading books. Please encourage your child to read books on his
reading level. Books should not be read that are well above or well
below a child’s reading level just for the purpose of collecting
points. Reading books above reading levels or reading multiple books
before taking tests can result in poor comprehension and failed
tests. It is important to note that a test can only be taken on
a book once…so, if your child takes a test and does not score
well, he can never take that test again. We want them to enjoy their
reading experience and not get frustrated!
A few points
to keep in mind:
- Children
should read Reading Eagles books on their own; do not read these
books aloud to them
- Tests should
not be taken based upon the viewing of a movie
- Answers,
test questions, and passwords should not be shared
